Non-ideal multifrequency cloaking using strongly dispersive materials

چکیده
Non-ideal multifrequency cloaking of dielectric cylinders is expected to be realizable by using singlelayer coating shells, which are made of isotropic homogeneous dispersive materials. In the present paper, scattering on the coated cylinders is studied for the Drude–Lorentz materials with frequency dependent permittivity and permeability. The exploited physical mechanism is based on the Fabry– Perot-type radial resonances arising in the coating shells. The obtained simulation results confirm the possibility of a strong reduction of the total scattering cross section at several frequencies simultaneously. Resonance frequencies can be estimated by using simple algebraic equations. The suggested mechanism can be used for TE and TM polarizations within a wide range of the variation of the diameter-to-wavelength ratio. & 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Non-ideal cloaking based on Fabry-Perot resonances in single-layer high-index.
Strong reduction of the scattering cross section is obtained for subwavelength dielectric and conducting cylinders without any magnetism for both TE and TM polarizations. The suggested approach is based on the use of Fabry-Perot type radial resonances, which can appear in single-layer, high-epsilon, isotropic, and homogeneous shells with the properly chosen parameters. Frequencies of the minima...
متن کاملEmploying pre-stress to generate finite cloaks for antiplane elastic waves
It is shown that nonlinear elastic pre-stress of neo-Hookean hyperelastic materials can be used as a mechanism to generate finite cloaks and thus render objects near-invisible to incoming antiplane elastic waves. This approach appears to negate the requirement for special cloaking metamaterials with inhomogeneous and anisotropic material properties in this case. These properties are induced nat...
متن کاملSeeing without being seen
Over the past decade, researchers have reported several impressive discoveries aimed at controlling the flow of light in ways that defy common intuition. Andrea Alù and Nader Engheta, at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Pennsylvania, in a paper in Physical Review Letters now propose a way of sensing with light through a nearly invisible detector [1]. This follows previous...
متن کاملDirect visualization of optical frequency invisibility cloak based on silicon nanorod array.
A new invisibility cloak was recently proposed for hiding objects in front of a highly reflecting mirror. This cloak requires only modest values of optical constants with minimal anisotropy and thus can be implemented by using non-resonant dielectric materials, making it an ideal system for optical frequency operation. We implemented the cloak using an array of silicon nanorods fabricated by el...
متن کاملFull-wave simulations of electromagnetic cloaking structures.
Pendry et al. have reported electromagnetically anisotropic and inhomogeneous shells that, in theory, completely shield an interior structure of arbitrary size from electromagnetic fields without perturbing the external fields. Neither the coordinate transformation-based analytical formulation nor the supporting ray-tracing simulation indicate how material perturbations and full-wave effects mi...
